On 22th of November, I visited Shifang invited by one of my friends, which is one of earthquake hit areas near to Chengdu. After having a meal in a short time in Shifang city, we were moved to Town of Hongbai by bus. This town was damaged severely in the 512 Earthquake. The road to this town was rough and bumpy, and there was always a danger that it was possible of the rocks rolling down from the top of the montain along the road. Firstly, we arrived at a residents area on the side of road. Most of local residents ran and gathered around us when we got down from bus. Laterly, we communicated warmly with them with our gifts which were all bought by Gary who was the sponsor and organizer of this visiting and came from America. These gifts were stationery, cartoon books, and special ones that were letters writen by American children to encourage the childern in disaster area have a better life with powerful confidence. It was more sincere and direct to make the kids in the earthquake disaster area face troubles and difficulties bravely under the encouragement from the kids with the same age.
What happened laterly shocked me deeply. Directed by local residents, we climed a hill, there were so many tombs in the hillside. All of them buried the childern, who had no time to run out of teaching building, when the earthquake happened. The teaching buildings collapsed. Most of students in the building lost their lives. However, other kinds of buildings in the same area alway stood up with less damages. Why?
As it happened, a mother visited her daughter's grave to cherish her birthday and the memory of her girl's death. All of people being on the scene felt very sorry and teardrops fell on my face. What I saw was that books, bags, toys the childern used when they lived, always were put along their graves. I couldn't help weeping when I saw these things used by these children.
